GUIDE FOR THIS WEBSITE AND USE OF EMAIL
Introduction
The website is the Association’s prime means of providing information to member associations and to the general public on all aspects of twinning activity, as well as helping to promote international understanding. The purpose of these notes is to help individual associations to get information into the site, and to achieve the best results from it.
Use of the Dorset Twinning Association website at www.twinning.org.uk
The website receives many visitors, with totals of ‘hits’ regularly reaching in excess of 250 a month. The website is easily found by anyone searching for twinning links – try entering the keywords ‘Dorset’ and ‘twinning’ into a Google search. It is therefore a valuable ‘shop window’ for promoting your twinning association and providing contact details for anyone wishing to find out more. It is recommended that members create their own web page even if it is very simple (which makes maintenance easier). One.com is used by DTA, is very affordable and has many templates which can be easily adapted to suit your requirements.
Otherwise please make sure that any information already on this site remains relevant and notify the webmaster at web[at]twinning.org.uk of any changes that need to be made. It is difficult for us to monitor every change among our thirty some members and your details up to date.
If you would like any news or other information about your twinning association to be included on the Dorset Twinning Association web pages, you can best do this by posting this directly to our Facebook Group page.
Associations are requested to send their annual report of activities ahead of the Annual General Meeting to our Secretary (see Management Committee) in electronic format, so that these can be published on the website. Sharing can give inspiration to others.
Cookies and refreshing your browser page
We do not use cookies on this site however cookies may be employed by sites for which links are provided on this site. You should always review which cookies you are willing to accept. Many but not all sites offer you the choice of accepting their cookies but they rather sneakily imply that you cannot access the site unless you click on OK. This is not the case. You should review their policy on cookies and accept or reject the ones you are not willing to have on your computet/device. If in doubt about previous acceptances just delete all your cookies. see below. This will not delete information already ‘harvested’ by third parties but it will disrupt unwanted marketing efforts.
If you are expecting changes to have been made on this site (or others for that matter) and do not see that vhanges have been made, delete your browser's cache and refresh the page before complaining that changes have not been made. It is a good idea to review your browser’s cache from time to time anyway - you may be surprised who has put ‘stuff’ there.
To remove cookies your browser will have a menu option for manging your web browsing data. Your broeser will provide help on this. Safari has it in Preferences/Privacy/Manage website data.
To empty cache in Google Chrome. In Safari []; use alt+cmd+e . Other browsers are similar but change from time to time so it is difficult to give current advice here.
To refresh a page on a pc press Cntrl-R and on a mac press cmd-R.
Email
Please make sure that there is a regularly used email address through which your association may be contacted, as we would like to be able to communicate quickly and efficiently with individual twinning associations and at the same time save paper!
Note that email addresses will be used only for the purpose of our contacting member associations and will not be passed on to any third party.
If you are concerned about disclosing your personal email address, you may wish to consider setting up a separate mailbox solely for twinning business. Your email app or internat email account will have instructions on this.
All email addresses posted on this website will have their ‘@’ symbol removed, to prevent automated harvesting of email addresses from by spammers. It will be necessary to replace the ‘@’ symbol when using these addresses.
If you communicate with your members via a Distribution List, it is strongly recommended for extra security that you insert the addresses in the ‘Blind carbon copy’ (bcc) address line so that the circulation is not seen by all recipients.
